“My camera won’t show up in Teams.”

When a peripheral blocks Microsoft 365 work, start here.

Cameras, docking stations, and headsets sit right at the edge of everyday support. This guide separates the driver, permission, and app-setting issues the desk can resolve from the hardware decisions that belong to a device owner.

Camera & microphone

Device model, app (browser or desktop), the exact permission prompt if one appeared, and whether the peripheral works outside Microsoft 365 apps.

Good desk starting points
  • Camera or mic missing from a Teams call
  • Wrong device selected by default
  • Permission blocked at the operating-system level
  • Bluetooth headset not pairing for a call

Docking stations & displays

Dock model, cable used, number of monitors, and whether the issue follows the dock or the laptop.

Good desk starting points
  • A dock stops driving an external monitor mid-use
  • Display arrangement resets after reconnecting
  • Video freezes in Teams only when docked

Keyboard, mouse & headsets

Whether the peripheral is wired or wireless, battery or charge state, and which specific app shows the symptom.

Good desk starting points
  • A wireless peripheral disconnects intermittently
  • Function or media keys stop responding
  • A headset shows connected but carries no audio in a call

Read the symptom

Four kinds of cause, four different owners.

Most peripheral reports fall into one of these—naming which one saves a round trip.

A driver or permission issue

The peripheral is recognized but blocked or misconfigured at the software level—usually fixable without new hardware.

An app-level setting

The wrong microphone or camera is selected as default inside Teams, Outlook, or another Microsoft 365 app.

A physical failure

The peripheral does not work anywhere, on any app or device—this points at the hardware itself.

A fleet-wide replacement need

The same peripheral model is failing across several people, which is a procurement and device-fleet decision.

Common questions

Software side, or hardware side.

Will the desk replace a broken webcam or headset?

No. Physical replacement and procurement sit with your device or hardware owner. The desk can help confirm whether the problem is actually hardware before you replace anything.

My camera works in one app but not Teams—why?

Apps can hold exclusive access to a camera or default to the wrong device. This is usually a permission or default-device setting, not a hardware fault.

Do we need this covered separately from our device fleet vendor?

No overlap is assumed. The desk handles the Microsoft 365 app side; your fleet or hardware vendor handles physical devices. Naming both owners avoids a peripheral issue stalling between them.
